STANTON SC DIGITAL DJ SYSTEM: SCS.1D DECK & SCS.1M MIXER

Image

Stanton DJ, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of professional audio products for DJs, Live Sound Reinforcement and install applications, today announces the launch of the SC System, the company’s new set of digital controllers for the professional DJ. The Stanton SC System is comprised of the SCS.1d deck and the SCS.1m mixer; both advanced control surfaces that give the digital DJ an entirely new level of performance ability and functionality, while preserving the comfortable feel and familiar layout of more traditional equipment.

Due to increased portability of laptops, processing power, massive song storage, and rapid advances in DJ software, digital DJs are becoming more prevalent than ever, and require dedicated, practical control surfaces that give them total control over their music and performance. The Stanton SC System is a high-end controller solution that can be a direct replacement (or even compliment) to the high-end DJ gear and popular software options that exist today. Each component of the system (mixer and deck) can be used standalone or together, allowing for multiple configurations, with clean lines drawn between the functions of each unit. This system boasts a premium feature set including built-in FireWire ™ connections, a high-torque motorized platter with vinyl control disc, motorized fader, rotary encoders, massive flexibility, and integration into DJ software with advanced two-way feedback.

Stanton’s Product Development Director Jim Mazur commented, “In creating the SC system, we took a clean approach towards not just designing a piece of equipment, but rather creating a physical palette of familiar and comfortable controls with expandability to allow the end user and software to grow as technology advances. While most musical instruments have been well defined and morphed throughout time, DJ gear is still evolving and we are all still searching for the culmination of functionality and interface to allow the artist to not feel confined by how others want them to use their gear. Computers have opened the door of creative opportunity for the artist, and at Stanton we want to continue to create the right gear to facilitate artistic expression through music.”

Key features of the Stanton SC System include:

* High-torque adjustable motorized platter with real vinyl
* Motorized pitch fader
* Velocity sensitive pads
* Highly tactile and complete user feedback (out of the box)
* Encoder section for control of rotary controls in software
* LCD “scribble strips” for two-way communication with selected DJ software and LED backlit buttons
* Universal, class-compliant MIDI and Audio

SCS.1d Deck

The Dream Deck for Laptop DJs - Designed from the ground up for high-precision software control, the SCS.1d Deck is a dream-come-true for laptop DJs. Based upon the popular layout of the C.304, as well as extensive input from top DJs, this deck?s interface is both comfortable and practical ? providing a host of ?world?s first? features at your fingertips. Even better, it ships with a real vinyl disc to provide an extremely natural feel, right out of the box.

Specifically, the SCS.1d offers a tight grip over your music through a high-torque 10? motorized platter, transport controls, navigation keys, rotary encoders, a motorized pitch slider, and a trigger section. Unlike the SCS.1m Mix Controller, the SCS.1d Deck does not offer any direct audio connectivity; all audio I/O remains at the mixer or external soundcard. What the SCS.1d does offer is the best tracking and most intuitive ergonomics of any product in its class ? by far.

High-Torque Motorized Platter
Central to the amazing SCS.1d is an enhanced version of the award-winning motorized platter from the Stanton T.120 and STR8-150 turntables. This is one of the world?s most trusted platter designs, proven through thousands of hours of use by DJs the world over. To be specific, this is a 4.5 Kgf-com, 16-pole, 3-phase brushless DC motor. What that means to you is super-fast .2 second spin up and stop speeds. The motor can also be adjusted to simulate the feel of both super high-torque motors and commonly used low-torque designs.

Unbeatable Resolution
The SCS.1d?s high resolution (over one thousand counts per rotation) vinyl tracking system allows for super-accurate mixing and scratching. This system assures that every nuance is captured in real time, and works around the same principles as an optical mouse ? so it never wears out. Unlike digital vinyl systems, the SCS.1d?s tracking is completely error-free (whereas digital vinyl systems have problems at slow speed). And because there?s no interpretation of timecode signal, there?s no delay between your movement and your software.

Encoders, Navigation, and More
Much like the SCS.1m, the SCS.1d Deck features four assignable rotary encoders with bright LED rings to control various aspects of your software. Underneath each encoder is an LCD ?scribble strip? to let you know what parameter you?re tweaking without looking up from the deck. With six control presets for each knob, this is the equivalent of having 24 assignable knobs ? built right into your deck! Similar flexibility is built into both the SCS.1ds Navigation section, with its jog wheel for precise control, and Deck selection, which quickly banks between different global settings. In this way, the SCS.1d is like having many ?virtual turntables? at your disposal; a single button press is all it takes to switch from one deck to the next.

Motorized Pitch Slider
The pitch slider on the SCS.1d is not only 100mm long for super-smooth pitch adjustments, but it?s also motorized, so your deck ?remembers? its settings as you switch between decks or presets.

Trigger Pads
Directly underneath the SCS.1ds motorized platter is its assignable Trigger section. Comprised of four velocity-sensitive pads, this section can be used to play loops and samples during performance, or for triggering any other MIDI messages to your software. Using these trigger pads in conjuction with the platter provides wild creative possibilities never before possible. While simple in operation, the expressive possibilities are almost endless.
Technical specifications
# Flagship deck controller for laptop DJs and remixer / producers
# Adjustable high-torque 10? motorized platter with vinyl surface and superior tracking
# 100mm motorized pitch fader with recall for sync with software
# Velocity-sensitive pads assingable to loops, cue points, etc.
# Assignable Encoder section with 360? of LED feedback
# LCD ?scribble strips? for two-way communication with selected software
# Familiar Tansport section for direct music control
# Perfect for adding maximum control capabilities into existing DJ software
# Easily controls multiple virtual decks for powerful multi-channel mixes

The SCS.1d offers a tight grip over the DJ’s music through a high-torque 10″ motorized platter, transport controls, navigation keys, rotary encoders, a motorized pitch slider, and a trigger section. Unlike the SCS.1m, the SCS.1d Deck does not offer any direct audio connectivity; all audio I/O remains at the mixer or external soundcard to reduce cabling. What the SCS.1d does offer is top of the line tracking and intuitive ergonomics, accented by a real 10″ disc of vinyl for authentic feel.

Encoder with Alpha numeric feedback
The SCS.1d features 4 virtual encoders each with LED rings and an alphanumeric display. The LED rings provide visual feedback for the current position of the knob providing instant positional feedback in low light environments and when switching between multiple presets. The alphanumeric displays indicate the name of the current function mapped to the encoder. This is important as these names are updated when different presets are loaded from the preset section. All functions on the encoder can be instantly mapped to the motorized platter by using the “JOG” button below the encoder.

Control Presets for Encoders and Triggers
SCS.1d features 6 control presets for the encoder rings allowing for a total of 24 knobs to be mapped to the deck control surface alone! Presets allow for multiple functions to be mapped to a set of controls. Each preset maintains its state so the controls are never “reset”.

Motorized Pitch Slider
The pitch slider on the SCS.1d is not only 100mm long for super smooth pitch adjustment. It is also motorized so the deck can remember several virtual decks’ fader positions. The motorized pitch slider can be automatically brought to perfect sync position when working with software that is able to communicate with the interface when doing a sync function.

Velocity Sensitive Trigger Pads
The trigger pads on the SCS1.d are velocity sensitive so they not only provide button press information but also velocity strength when the trigger is pressed. In this way samples can be triggered at different volumes based upon how hard the buttons are pressed with pressure sensitive interface messages.

SCS.1m Mixer Controller
The World?s Most Advanced Mix Controller - Although the SCS.1m is in some ways a ?mixer,? it?s more appropriately called a mix controller. Designed in an intuitive DJ mixer format that should be instantly familiar to anyone who?s ever stepped behind the decks, the SCS.1m features four channel strips with faders, EQ controls, and high-precision metering, as well as a responsive crossfader, and a straightforward Cue / Monitoring section. The surface layout has been carefully designed so that any experienced DJ can simply step up and begin basic mixing within seconds. The difference, of course, is that tweaking an EQ knob or channel fader, for example, is not actually adjusting analog audio ? it?s controlling the corresponding EQ or level parameter in your DJ software.

FireWire Computer Connection
The SCS.1m controls your DJ software and sends/receives audio to Mac or PC via its onboard, studio-quality FireWire connection. FireWire allows a simple, single-cable connection, with all the bandwidth required to handle just about any mixing and controlling task you?re likely to need. It also ensures ultra-low latency (delay) of only 1.5ms and high sampling rates (sound quality) of up to 24 bit / 96 kHz. This translates into lightning-fast responsiveness and sound quality that?s far beyond competing mix control products.

Rotary Controls (aka "Super Knobs")
Beyond basic mixing and control, the SCS.1m makes a radical departure from traditional mixers via four rotary encoders (?virtual knobs?) with LED rings and corresponding LCD ?scribble strips.? These fully assignable encoders can be mapped directly into functions in the DJ software while providing visual feedback of knob position, even in low-light settings. Underneath, the LCD scribble strips confirm the software parameter being adjusted by each encoder, without the need to check your laptop. Of course, common assignments for these encoders can be saved as presets for fast recall.

Auxiliary Input for Turntables and CD Players
Although designed primarily as a software control surface, the SC System provides DJs with the ability to connect a ?real? turntable or CD player into their Macs or PCs via a switchable Aux input. This input is useful for mixing ?real world? sources along with your software, and for sampling or archiving vinyl and other audio into your computer.

Superior Build Quality
Unlike other DJ control surfaces, the SCS.1m Mix Controller and SCS.1d Deck offer truly professional, ?no-compromise? build quality. Every knob, fader, LED and LCD is of utmost quality, and even the chassis is designed for years of real-world use in demanding live and studio environments.

Technical specifications
# The world?s premier mixer control surface for laptop DJs and remixers
# Familiar 4-channel design with intuitive high-precision metering
# Assignable Encoder section with 360? of LED feedback
# LCD ?scribble strips? for two-way communication with selected DJ software
# Easy controller mapping into popular DJ and VJ software
# Navigation section for remote browsing through playlists
# Mic and Phono / Line input for sampling, archiving vinyl, and remixing
# Built-in FireWire connections with full Mac and Windows compatibility
# Perfect as a standalone mix controller, or in combination with SCS.1d deck
# Balanced, studio-quality TRS output for mains; RCA booth output and 1/4″; headphones output
# Unique footswitch input enabling hands-free control of software parameters

The SCS.1m is an analogy in design to a traditional 4 channel dj mixer. It features 4 channel strips equipped with Gain, Hi, Mid, Low, and Pan controls as well as up faders and a cross fader. The SCS.1m controller also has 4 encoders exactly like the SCS.1d. On the rear panel the SCS.1m has full audio connectivity for Dj software. The unit can connect to the mains via balanced connectors and has a microphone input and aux input that is phono / line switchable. Monitoring is achieved through the headphone outputs on the front panel. The SCS.1m also includes a footswitch input which allows the user to free up their hands while performing.

Studio Quality Firewire Audio Interface
The mixer acts as an audio interface for the SC System, and multiple channels of audio can be used with it. By utilizing the Firewire protocol the SCS.1m ensures low latency audio to and from the PC (1.5ms) and high sampling rates (up to 96KHz). This means that high definition audio can be used seamlessly with the unit, and that there is virtually no delay between a control movement on the surface and a response from the computer.

4 Channels of MIDI control
While the SCS.1d represents a merge of all the highest quality components and controls found on high end cd players and turntables, the SCS.1m offers the same comparison to high end mixing boards. The unit offers 4 channel strips of control so 4 virtual decks can be mixed together in real time.

Encoder Strip
The encoder strip is designed to match the similar encoder strip on the SCS.1d. In this way, there is a common user interface between performing with control presets on the mixer and the deck. The only difference between the respective encoder strips on the mixer and deck is the fact that the strips on the mixer can be used in a matrix fashion. This means that either one channel strip has 4 encoder controls, or there is one common control between the 4 encoders. For example, while running an effect on one channel, the DJ may require more control for that effect and would choose to run all 4 controls dedicated to the one channel. On the other hand, a DJ may want a more generic control that can be mapped across each channel such as pan / balance. With 4 presets per encoder knob, the SCS.1m allows for up to 12 knobs of control into the software.

Aux Input
The SCS.1m allows for an auxiliary input to be run into the computer. This input is phono / line switchable so either a CD player or turntable can be run into the PC. This input is useful for sampling in real time off of a vinyl or CD.

Stanton has announced the release of the C.324, the companys newest slot loading tabletop CD player for the professional DJ. The Stanton C.324 is designed for digital DJs who want to scratch CDs like vinyl, and has all the latest components needed for ultimate performance. It features MP3 and CD audio playback with onboard file and folder browsing, onboard pattern and real-time sequencer for drum machine style performances, seven on board digital effects, and a sleek slot loading CD mechanism with LED for quick loading of CDs into the unit in low light situations.

The C.324 has added responsive trigger pads that offer real-time sample / loop sequencing. This means that trigger patterns can now be recorded in real time and looped instantaneously. Drum patterns and loops can be manually re-sequenced and then looped to bring a completely new twist to live DJ remixing. Using the C.324, sequences can be created in seconds compared to minutes using drum machines.

The C.324 can record loops and samples, with the length determined by the time setting. This new feature makes it easy to set up seamless loops. The C.324 also allowed for the creation of beat synchronized loops based off of the current song?s BPM. This means that a perfectly timed seamless loop can be set on-the-fly with one press of a button. Once a beat synchronized loop has been set, it can be trimmed or expanded in real time by beat increment. By trimming the beat, a one bar loop can be turned into a 1/2 bar loop, 1/4 note or 1/8th note. Smaller loops can be expanded in the same fashion.

Jim Mazur, Director of Product Development for Stanton DJ said, ?The C.324 expands on the functionality of our popular C.314, and is a great all-around player for every type of DJ. It offers new and exciting creative tools, such as the first real time sequencer in a DJ CD player, an automatic looper, and great ergonomics so that DJs can perform more exciting and creative mixes.?

Highlights of the Stanton C.324 include:

Tabletop CD player with touch sensitive jog wheel for scratching and beat juggling
CD slot drive mechanism
